About Ruby
Ruby is a sweet, affectionate girl who thrives on human companionship. She loves spending time with her people and would be happiest in a home where she is considered a part of the family. Ruby is very responsive to training, especially when treats are involved. She knows how to sit on cue and can be lured into a down position with a little encouragement.
Ruby has a playful side and absolutely loves her soft toys. She'll happily run around with them in her mouth, and while she's still learning to bring them back, she's making great progress. Her love of toys and treats will help keep her engaged and motivated for training sessions.
While Ruby is sweet and loving, she does have a few things to keep in mind for her new family. She has jumped over lower 4-5 foot fences in the past, so she'll need a home with secure 6-foot fencing. When left alone, she may need to be indoors to ensure her safety. Ruby can be a little unsure at times, especially when it comes to close handling, so it will take patience and quality time to help her feel fully comfortable and bonded with her new family.
Ruby is best suited to a single-dog home. She has had some challenges with reactivity and resource guarding with other dogs in the home, so it's important that she's the only dog in her new home.
She can meet other social dogs while out on walks and, once comfortable, she may engage in play with dogs she knows. However, continued training to help manage her arousal and reactivity will be crucial to her success.
Ruby would do best in a home with calm, older children, as she can be a little more sensitive to handling. Her new family should be committed to helping her build trust and confidence through positive reinforcement and gentle care.
We recommend that all members of the household meet Ruby at time of adoption.
