About Maynard
Maynard is a big, sweet and sensitive boy who is looking for a calm mature home environment that offers structure and routine.
Maynard can be a bit unsure at times when going into new environments with new people, new adopters will need to take things slow with him and understand it may take him a little longer to settle into his new home.
Maynard can be tense and unsure with close handling and restraint; new owners will need to read his body language and use other methods like licky mats and yummy treats to make handling a positive experience while working on building a bond. Once Maynard has bonded with his people he loves to lean in for a nice pat and some gentle affection, he responds to his name but still working on recall and knows the "sit" command. He is also toilet trained in a home.
Maynard would be best suited to a family that is able to read and respect his body language to ensure he is comfortable during interactions, no small children preferably teenaged children. Maynard has shown some barrier reactivity in shelter so for this reason we strongly recommend no front yard access. Maynard is social with other dogs but can be quite pushy at times, we recommend a calm social and tolerant canine friend would be best suited to him, must meet dogs at time of adoption to ensure a good match.
