About Marney
Meet Marney – A Gentle Heart Looking for a Patient Home 💕
Marney is a sweet Shih Tzu girl who is searching for a calm, understanding home where she can finally feel safe and supported. She is very fearful of new people and needs an experienced, compassionate adopter who can guide her with patience, routine, and positive reinforcement. Marney will thrive with someone who understands shy dogs and is committed to helping her build confidence at her own pace.
Because sudden movements and unfamiliar handling can overwhelm her, Marney is best suited to a home with children aged 12 years and older only who can respect her boundaries and give her space when she needs it. When she hears unfamiliar noises or feels unsure, Marney will bark to alert her people — this is her way of saying she’s worried, not naughty. 😇
Marney is currently supported by behaviour medication to help her manage anxiety, and she will need an adopter willing to continue this alongside ongoing guidance from a veterinarian or behaviour professional. She can be a little picky with food, but once she trusts you, she enjoys quiet companionship and being close to her person.
Marney has lived successfully with a wide range of animals including a pet bird, cats, kittens, rabbits, chickens and guinea pigs but will occasionally chase a cat if it runs in front of her - so best to go to a home without a scaredy cat present.
She enjoys the company of other dogs and may try to play with them (and even rabbits!), but she is also capable of living happily as the only dog in the home.
A true lap dog at heart, Marney loves closeness but needs help learning appropriate boundaries and can show signs of repulsion if overhandled or overwhelmed.
